Who was Voltaire
Francois Marie Arouet, also known by his pen name Voltaire, was born on November 21, 1694 in Paris. Voltaire was one of France’s greatest enlightenment writers and philosophers, best known for his stylish wit and intelligence.
Voltaire was a prolific writer of novels, essays, poetry, and plays. He was also known for his historical and scientific writings, including over two thousand books and pamphlets and over twenty thousand letters.
Voltaire died in Paris on May 30, 1778 at the age of 83. Denied burial in a church cemetery, he was buried at an abbey in Champagne. In 1791, his remains were moved to their final resting place at the Pantheon in Paris.
