Winston Churchill Quotes
Who was Winston Churchill?
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born in 1874 in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England. He was well known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during WWII, and widely regarded as a great wartime leader. He was a British politician and statesman, and the first person created an honorary citizen of the United States. Winston Churchill is currently the only British prime minister to ever receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Churchill's parents led busy social lives and traveled extensively, leaving Winston in the care of a nanny for much of his childhood years. Never an excellent student, and a bit of a troublemaker, Churchill was sent off to boarding school at the age of eight. Churchill was accepted to the Harrow school at the age of twelve, then to the Royal Military College where he graduated near the top of his class.
In 1953 Winston Churchill won the Nobel Prize in Literature "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values". Winston Churchill died January 24, 1965.
